The Cyber Resilience Pledge launched in the UK yesterday and high profile companies such as M&S, Deloitte, Cloudflare and Vodafone have already signed up.

Whilst the pledge is voluntary and initially being taken by larger organisations, SMEs will have to follow suit if they want to remain in supply chain.

So what is the Cyber Resilience Pledge?

The Cyber Resilience Pledge is the centrepiece of a wider National Cyber Action Plan which is designed to raise overall cyber security standards in the UK and prevent cyber attacks which are estimated to cost the UK economy nearly £15bn annually.

The pledge asks organisations to commit to three practical actions:

Make cyber security a board-level responsibility
Implement the government’s Cyber Governance Code of Practice.
Ensure all board members complete NCSC cyber governance training within three months and then annually.

Sign up to the NCSC Early Warning service
This free service alerts organisations if their domains, networks or systems show signs of compromise or malicious activity.

Improve supply chain security
Register for the Cyber Essentials Supplier Check Tool.
Audit suppliers’ cyber security.
Take a risk-based approach to requiring suppliers to achieve Cyber Essentials certification.

Whether or not your organisation signs the Cyber Resilience Pledge, strengthening cyber security is no longer optional in 2026 and the organisations that thrive will be those with the right people in place.
